This nineteenth-century tavern dining table in a rustic farmhouse style comprises a thick natural warm brown timber top with cleated ends, supported by an X-frame trestle base finished in dark black paint. Visible details include a slender central iron stretcher connecting the trestle ends, a smooth rectangular surface, and honest wear to the painted edges that reveals the timber underneath. The timber displays natural grain variations, knot patterns, and minor surface imperfections consistent with age. Practical for everyday dining or as a console table in a living space, the table measures 197 cm in width, 75 cm in depth, and 74 cm in height. It provides comfortable seating capacity for a dining room, kitchen, or open-plan living area, accommodating multiple chairs along its length.

Tavern tables were functional surfaces originally designed for use in public houses and inns during the 18th and 19th centuries. They typically featured sturdy wooden frames, often with trestle or cross-frame bases, constructed to withstand heavy daily use.

These tables were primarily constructed from durable hardwoods such as oak, elm, or pine. Construction often incorporated stretchers, pegged mortise-and-tenon joints, or iron bracing to reinforce the trestle structure.

Authentic pieces display evidence of period craftsmanship, including hand-sawn wood marks, hand-forged iron hardware, and natural wear patterns along footrests and table edges. Original joinery techniques, such as wooden pegs rather than modern steel screws, also indicate historical origin.

A tavern table functions as an anchor in a contemporary dining space when paired with modern upholstered chairs or sleek metal seating to create visual contrast. The natural wood grain and painted base complement both minimalist and traditional design schemes.

Preserve the surface by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax paste to nourish the timber. Avoid exposure to direct heat sources or excess moisture, and clean spills immediately with a damp, lint-free cloth.
