A cellarette, often designed in a sarcophagus shape during the Georgian era, was a specialised wooden chest used to store and chill wine bottles in dining rooms prior to modern refrigeration.

Georgian cellarettes were constructed from mahogany or flame mahogany veneers, frequently fitted with zinc or sheet lead linings to contain ice and protect the exterior timber from moisture.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joinery, original brass escutcheons or handles, a removable or integrated metal lining, and operational wear on the base and castors.

In modern interior schemes, a cellarette functions as an architectural accent piece, a low side table, or discreet storage within a hallway, study, or dining room.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a dry cloth and applying beeswax annually, while ensuring the internal lead lining remains clean and dry to prevent corrosion.
