This antique French Rococo Revival coffee table dates from 1920. It is constructed from satinwood and hardwood with a warm brown polished finish. The oval top displays a geometric quarter-matched veneer pattern with cross-banded edges, above an apron ornamented with floral carvings. Four cabriole legs support the frame, terminating in claw feet and linked by an ornate, carved cross stretcher with a central medallion. The table measures 51 cm high, 119 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. In a contemporary home, the piece serves as a central surface in a living room, positioned in front of a sofa or seating group to hold drinks, books, or decorative items. Its classic French Chateau aesthetic complements traditional or eclectic seating arrangements while providing practical surface area within everyday living spaces.

French Rococo and Louis XV style tables are characterised by graceful serpentine curves, carved cabriole legs, ornate scrollwork, and symmetrical floral or foliate motifs. Originating in 18th-century France, these designs prioritise fluid lines and decorative wood veneers.

These tables are primarily constructed using solid hardwood frameworks covered with thin cuts of satinwood veneer arranged in geometric or parquetry patterns. Additional details often feature hand-carved timber aprons, stretchers, and sculpted feet.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand craftsmanship, such as irregular hand-cut joinery, thick wood veneers, natural oxidisation on the underside, and subtle wear across high-touch areas like legs and table edges.

Pair the table with structured, neutral-upholstered sofas to balance its curved silhouette and detailed wood grain. Keeping surrounding accessories minimal allows the parquetry top and carved details to serve as a focal point.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically to maintain the wood lustre. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and moisture to prevent veneer lifting or surface cracking.
