FAQs

Pocket coin scales were widely used from the 18th to the early 20th centuries by merchants, bankers, and travellers to verify the weight and value of circulating gold and silver coinage.

These portable instruments typically combine brass or steel balancing beams and pans with wooden storage cases, often lined with velvet or felt to protect the delicate components.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate metal oxidisation, hand-finished components, maker stamps, and calibrated weights that correspond to historical currency standards.

This piece can be displayed inside a glass cabinet, on a desk, or atop a stack of antiquarian books to add a touch of scholarly curiosity to a room.

Preserve the metal by keeping it in a low-humidity environment and avoiding abrasive cleaning agents that might remove historical patina.
