This pair of French Louis XV style console tables dates from 1900 and comes in warm brown walnut with polished surfaces and natural wood grain variation. Each piece has a serpentine marble top, a carved shell motif centred in the frieze, a lower shelf with a carved front apron, and cabriole legs ending in scrolled feet. The timber displays clean polished finishes without noticeable damage, supporting the very good condition stated. Measuring 102 cm high, 85 cm wide, and 42 cm deep, these narrow tables fit comfortably against a hallway wall beside the front door or in a narrow reception room. Such furniture serves well for displaying decorative objects, lamps, or small plants while providing practical surface space in entrance halls, living rooms, or dining areas. The matching pair creates a balanced arrangement in domestic interiors, suiting traditional rooms inspired by French chateau aesthetics. The open lower shelves offer additional display capacity for books or ornaments, while the compact depth ensures they remain unobtrusive in high-traffic corridors.

The Louis XV style, developed in 18th-century France, is characterised by asymmetrical curves, serpentine lines, cabriole legs, and ornate carving such as shell motifs and acanthus leaves.

Craftsmen typically utilised native hardwoods like walnut, oak, or beech, often topped with quarried marble such as Breche or Rouge Royale, combined with brass or bronze accents.

Authentic pieces display hand-carved architectural details, traditional joinery like peg construction, natural wear on wooden undertiers, and thick-cut marble tops with hand-finished edges.

Position them symmetrically in a hallway, entryway, or alcoves flanking a doorway, topped with modern lamps or ceramic vessels to create a curated contrast between classic and contemporary design.

Wipe the marble tops with a neutral cleaner to prevent etching, and wax the walnut framework occasionally with natural beeswax polish while keeping the tables away from direct heat sources.
