The drawers are solid oak lined, with brass ring pull handles. It stands on beautifully turned and fluted legs, this has a nicely cross banded top which is serpentine shaped.

The Georgian style encompasses designs produced during the reigns of the first four British monarchs of the House of Hanover, spanning from 1714 to 1830. It is characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and an increasing refinement in cabinetmaking techniques, drawing heavily on Palladian and neoclassical architectural influences.

Authentic pieces were typically constructed from imported hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, often featuring intricate crossbanding, stringing, and marquetry in lighter woods like satinwood or boxwood. Traditional joinery techniques, including dovetail drawers and mortise-and-tenon framing, were standard practice during this era.

Authentic pieces display period-appropriate tool marks, hand-cut dovetailing with minor irregularities, and natural timber shrinkage over centuries. Examining the secondary woods used in drawer linings and checking for period hardware fixings also helps verify the actual age and origin.

Pairing a historic timber console with minimalist modern lighting, abstract art, or contemporary ceramics creates a striking contrast that highlights the craftsmanship of the piece. Placing it against a neutral wall allows the rich grain and inlay work to serve as a focal point without overwhelming the room.

Maintain a stable indoor climate away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent timber splitting and fading. Periodically apply a quality microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood and protect the finish from moisture, avoiding modern silicone-based polishes.
