Antique Georgian Style Inlaid Mahogany Console Table

Description

An outstanding antique Georgian style inlaid mahogany console table, made in England and dating from around the 1930’s.

This is of beautiful quality and is extremely well made. It is a very impressive and useful size, with useful storage space in the two drawers. The drawers are solid oak lined with fine, hand cut dovetailed joints. This has a lovely bow shape to the front, with fine satin wood inlays, it stands on elegant yet sturdy tapered and fluted legs.

We have recently had this stripped and re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age with just some extremely minor wear here and there.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian style furniture, originating in 18th-century Britain, is characterized by classical proportions, symmetry, and refined woodwork. Influenced by Neoclassical and Palladian architecture, pieces frequently feature elegant inlay work, tapered or fluted legs, and rich timber veneers.

Primary woods included dense West Indian and Cuban mahogany, favoured for its rich reddish-brown grain and durability. Secondary features often incorporated decorative marquetry or stringing in satinwood or boxwood, paired with cast brass hardware.

Authentic pieces display historical construction techniques, including hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, hand-sawn timber backing, and unrefined undersides showing tool marks. Hardware typically leaves age-appropriate shadow marks or minor oxidisation around brass fittings.

Place the table against a neutral or dark backdrop in an entryway or hallway to create a focal point. Balance the traditional timber by pairing it with a contemporary wall mirror, minimal ceramic vessels, or subtle modern lighting.

Maintain timber finish by applying a quality beeswax polish twice yearly, buffing along the grain. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent veneer movement, cracking, or fading.
