This 19th-century Victorian oak butler's tray and folding stand brings traditional English country house style to a living space. The dark brown timber shows rich grain and warm tones across the oval lift-off tray, which has carved handles, a moulded edge with carved pattern detailing, and an oval gallery. The folding stand possesses curved legs connected by multiple turned stretchers with decorative beaded spindles near the feet and mid-section. Measuring 74 cm high, 79 cm wide, and 53 cm deep, the table fits naturally at the end of a sofa to serve drinks or hold books. The versatile design allows the tray to lift off independently from the collapsing stand for convenient storage or transport when hosting guests.

Originally designed in the 18th and 19th centuries, butlers trays were portable serving surfaces used by domestic staff to transport items between kitchens and dining rooms. The folding stand allowed the tray to function as a temporary side table when required.

Traditional 19th-century examples were constructed from hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut using mortise and tenon joinery. The folding stands utilised wooden cross-pivots or webbing straps alongside turned stretchers for stability.

Authentic period pieces display hand-carving or hand-planing marks, traditional joinery, and natural age-related patination around the handholds and joints. Consistent timber wear is typically present on the underside of the tray where it contacts the frame.

Position the piece in a living room or hallway as an occasional drinks bar, side table, or display surface for ceramics. Its compact form enables it to fit into tight spaces or beside an armchair.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber patination. Avoid placing hot items or unlined glassware directly onto the wood.
