Shot enamel is a specialised glazing technique developed by Royal Worcester in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, featuring metallic oxides that create a shimmering, iridescent two-tone colour effect as the light changes.

These figures are crafted from fine porcelain or parian ware, then hand-painted and glazed using metallic enamels and gilding before being fired at high temperatures.

Authenticity is verified by checking the base for stamped manufacturer hallmarks, date symbols, registration numbers, and artist signatures or model numbers specific to the factory records.

They can be displayed on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or sideboard as focal points, contrasting against clean architectural lines to add historical depth and curated character to a room.

Keep porcelain out of direct sunlight to prevent enamel fading, dust gently with a soft dry brush, and avoid using liquid cleaners or submersing the piece in water, especially if it features delicate gilding.
