This early 19th-century Regency wine cooler cellarette exhibits a warm brown flame mahogany timber finish with a dome-shaped lid and a central front panel of figured veneer, bordered by rosewood stringing and mahogany crossbanding. The rectangular box sits on four turned and reeded tapering legs fitted with original brass cup castors, and features brass ring handles mounted on lions-mask hardware at the sides, alongside a keyhole escutcheon on the front and an interior holding several glass decanters. The piece measures 55 cm high, 52 cm wide, and 41 cm deep. In a modern home, this practical drinks chest places neatly into an empty corner of a dining room, living space, or study to store bottles and decanters. The hinged lid opens to provide easy access to the contents while adding traditional character and refined Regency style to interior settings.

During the Regency period, a cellarette served as a freestanding wooden chest used in dining rooms to store and cool wine and spirits. Often fitted with lead lining or ice compartments and brass handles for transport, these pieces allowed hosts to serve chilled beverages directly at the dining table.

19th-century wine coolers were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, frequently detailed with flame veneer finishes. The interiors often incorporated zinc or lead linings to prevent moisture damage, paired with solid brass handles, hinges, and castors.

Authentic Regency cellarettes feature design characteristics of the early 19th century, including turned or reeded legs, lion mask or drop-ring brass handles, and hand-cut dovetail joinery. Original pieces often display natural wear on the base, castors, and internal decanter divisions.

A cellarette can be placed in a modern dining room, hallway, or living room as a functional drinks cabinet or standalone decorative accent. Its rich wood tones provide visual depth when contrasted against modern painted walls or minimalist furniture.

Maintain the mahogany surface by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a natural beeswax polish twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent wood movement or veneer splitting.
