FAQs

Basque furniture typically originates from the historical region spanning the French and Spanish borders, characterised by robust construction, heavy use of local timbers like walnut and beech, and distinctive scrolled or lyre-form stretchers.

These tables were constructed using dense hardwoods native to the region, predominantly walnut for framing and surface details, alongside beech, chestnut, or oak for structural stability and legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit period joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints secured with wooden pegs, hand-planed top boards displaying natural variation, and signs of age-related oxidisation and wear consistent with hand tools.

Pair the table with minimalist modern seating to create a striking contrast between clean lines and historic texture, anchoring the piece within a neutral room palette.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth and nourishing the surface periodically with traditional beeswax, avoiding silicone-based polishes and direct sunlight exposure.
