Description

A rare early 19th century pine side table with original paintwork.

This table consists of a painted cream ground with blue painted decoration, the top with blue painted stylised anthemion and foliate design to each corner with outer blue painted border.

This leads down to an original pine drawer with painted decoration, original painted and turned knob handles with a shaped frieze below, the sides also with painted decoration.

The table is supported on four elegant tapered and painted legs.

It is extremely rare to find a table such as this with original paintwork as many have been stripped of paintwork over the years due to changes in fashion.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Early 19th-century painted country furniture typically features utilitarian construction in softwoods like pine, often enhanced with hand-applied decorative paintwork, lines, or stencilling to mimic more expensive hardwoods.

These tables were constructed primarily from native softwoods such as pine, joined using traditional methods like dovetailing for drawers and mortise and tenon joints for the frame.

Authentic period painted finishes display natural wear patterns, craquelure, subtle oxidisation, and multiple underlying layers of mineral or linseed-oil-based paints visible through losses.

An antique painted table works well as a contrasting accent piece in neutral schemes, providing historical texture and colour when paired with modern minimalist seating or lighting.

Preserve original painted surfaces by avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, keeping the item out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, and maintaining stable indoor humidity levels.
