Seventeenth-century English furniture is characterised by its heavy reliance on solid native timber, robust mortise and tenon joinery, and functional yet sturdy construction methods typical of the Jacobean and Stuart periods.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from solid English oak, often incorporating hand-turned legs, stretchers, and traditional wooden peg joinery instead of modern metal fasteners.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-tool marks, timber shrinkage, period-correct joinery such as pegged mortise and tenon joints, and the natural patination acquired over centuries of use.

Integrating period furniture into contemporary spaces works best by pairing the rich wooden textures with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and contrasting modern elements to highlight the historical craftsmanship.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, dusting with a dry microfiber cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the dry timber.
