This Victorian rosewood coffee table exhibits a grand Regency style, finished in a warm brown colour with a deep patination. The rectangular top has rounded corners, surmounting a veneered apron and four turned, reeded legs with small collars near the top and base. Two slim mahogany-lined drawers are integrated into the frieze with flush fronts. Visible details include grain variation across the timber surfaces and subtle vertical fluting on the tapering legs. The table stands 44.5 cm high, 129 cm wide, and 79.5 cm deep. In a modern home, this low table serves as a central surface in a living room or reception area, positioned in front of a sofa or seating group. It provides a stable platform for books, decorative objects, and everyday items while introducing traditional timber character to the space. The proportions suit various seating layouts, and the warm wood tones complement both classic and contemporary interior schemes.

FAQs

While low coffee tables became widespread in the mid-twentieth century, many antique rosewood examples were either converted from earlier nineteenth-century tea or dining tables or crafted in traditional Regency styles using figured timber.

These tables typically feature solid or veneered rosewood top panels set over soft-wood frames, often complemented by solid hardwood reeded or turned legs and traditional joinery such as dovetails and tenon joints.

Authentic pieces feature dense dark timber with distinct contrasting grain lines, natural patination, hand-cut joinery, and period construction details such as hand-carved fluting or turned leg collars.

Dark rosewood pairs well with neutral linen upholstery, contemporary artwork, and brass or glass decorative accents, creating visual weight and balance in living room spaces.

Apply clear beeswax polish periodically along the grain to nourish the timber, keep the table away from direct sunlight to prevent bleaching, and use coasters to avoid moisture rings on the veneer.
