Late C19th/ early C20th Chinese carved hardwood scroll-end Kang table of larger scale.

Stylish Chinese Kang or opium table of unusual scale and proportions . The carved hardwood scroll-ended rectangular frame with a figured burr elm panel top . Carved friezes , of free-standing form with shaped open panelled ends .

Superb quality timber with a rich colour and and patina. In excellent original condition with no repairs or damage.

A highly decorative , stylish and practical table for use as a reception or coffee table.

A kang table is a low wooden table designed to sit atop a raised, heated brick platform called a kang, which was standard in traditional Northern Chinese homes. During the Qing Dynasty, these tables provided a surface for dining, reading, and tea ceremonies while occupants sat on the heated platform.
