Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Crisp reeding on the swept legs: cleanly run machine moulding for revival furniture.
Oxidised brass box castors: natural darkening from decades of gentle domestic use.
Crossbanded satinwood border with fine stringing: high quality decorative cabinetmaking.
Slotted screws securing the underside battens: original fixings before modern cross-head screws.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This Regency Revival centre table from 1920 is a freestanding circular dining table crafted with highly figured mahogany timbers and triple satinwood crossbanded inlay borders around the edge of the warm brown top. The column base supports a turned gun barrel pillar with swept, fluted legs that terminate in brass castor caps and wheels. The top measures 72 cm high, 161 cm wide, and 161 cm deep, and it tilts for easy storage while accommodating up to six people for dining. Suitable as a principal or occasional dining table in a traditional dining room or a spacious reception hallway, the table provides a practical surface for daily family meals or hosting dinner guests. The traditional proportions and classic silhouette anchor the room with functional period style, offering everyday utility without occupying excessive floor space.

Regency Revival furniture reproduces the designs of the early 19th century, drawing inspiration from classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian forms. Key elements include elegant proportions, mahogany and rosewood veneers, brass accents, and central pedestal bases with splayed legs.

Primary woods typically included solid mahogany or rich mahogany veneers, often complemented by decorative satinwood or rosewood crossbanding. Metalwork usually consisted of brass caps and brass castors attached to the feet.

Look for hand-cut dovetails on tilt-top mechanisms, original brass castors secured with period screws, natural oxidisation on the underside of the woodwork, and refined crossbanded inlay along the table edges.

Position the table in an entryway or central foyer, or use it as a compact dining table. Pair the dark wood tones with light neutral wall colours, contemporary artwork, or a simple decorative vase to balance traditional form with modern aesthetic.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing along the grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and moisture to prevent the wood veneer from drying or lifting.
