Victorian decorative metalwork is characterised by elaborate ornamentation, classical motifs such as cherubs and acanthus leaves, and heavy cast construction reflecting the periods affinity for ornate domestic details.

These pieces were typically produced using traditional sand-casting methods, utilizing solid brass alloys that provided the necessary weight to function effectively as doorstops.

Authenticity is generally identified by the presence of sand-casting rough edges on the reverse, natural patination, weight, and detailed hand-chasing rather than modern machine finishing.

Such decorative objects add metallic warmth and historical texture when placed functionally on a floor or styled purely as a sculptural accent on a shelf or mantelpiece.

Maintenance involves dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and avoiding abrasive metal polishes to preserve the accumulated historical patination and surface integrity.
