Treen refers to small, functional wooden domestic and personal objects made by hand, often utilizing turning techniques on a lathe, popular from the 17th to the 19th centuries.

Common materials included dense exotic woods such as coquilla nut and boxwood, prized for their fine grain, durability, and capacity to take a high polish.

Authentic pieces typically display hand-turned lathe marks, natural patination from handling, shrinkage cracks consistent with age, and traditional joinery or threading appropriate to the period.

Antique treen objects work well displayed in small groupings on bookshelves, side tables, or within glazed cabinets, adding tactile warmth and historical interest to modern spaces.

Keep wooden artefacts away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and excessive moisture, applying occasional light applications of microcrystalline wax to preserve the finish.
