This large nineteenth-century French Rococo Revival centrepiece combines light-blue porcelain with gilt-bronze and ormolu mounts. The body holds a turquoise-blue glazed porcelain bowl encircled by a pierced reticulated ormolu rim with scrollwork patterns, flanked by cast ormolu caryatid handles depicting female figures with elaborate braided hairstyles. The central section displays a hand-painted equestrian hunting scene showing riders on horseback in a landscape, bordered by gilded scrollwork and highlights. A turned pedestal with leaf-moulded gilt bands sits on a square stepped ormolu base decorated with cast floral and ribbon motifs on the feet. Practical for display on a large sideboard top in a dining room or drawing room, the object measures 49 cm high, 49 cm wide, and 35 cm deep. The combination of turquoise-blue glaze, polished gold-tone metalwork, and classical figural hardware creates a formal decorative centrepiece for a traditional interior setting.

Sevres style porcelain refers to late nineteenth-century ceramics produced across Europe that emulated the design language, ground colours, elaborate gilding, and hand-painted figurative vignettes popularized by the Royal Factory of Sevres during the eighteenth century.

These decorative pieces typically combine soft-paste or hard-paste porcelain with cast bronze mounts, which are finished using mercury gilding or electroplating techniques to create an ormolu surface.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces feature hand-painted artwork signed by porcelain artists, high-density chased gilt-bronze fittings, distinctive ground glaze colours such as bleu celeste or rose Pompadour, and specific pseudo-Sevres factory marks painted on the glaze underside.

Position the comport as a focal point on a dark wood sideboard, marble console table, or central dining table, allowing its vibrant ground colour and gilded metalwork to contrast against neutral wall tones.

Dust gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or natural hair brush. Avoid water, abrasive chemical cleaners, or metal polishes on the gilt bronze, as moisture can damage both the gilded surface coating and the delicate overglaze enamel painting.
