This Chinese porcelain bowl dates from the 18th century in the Georgian Chinoiserie style, produced around 1765 in London within the James Giles workshop on porcelain from around 1750. The piece is constructed from porcelain finished with overglaze enamel and gold leaf, displaying an orange, white, pink, and green colour palette with minor wear to the gilding. Details visible include a fluted body, a hand-painted figure in a pink robe holding a bird in a garden setting, chrysanthemum roundels, and iron-red diaper panels, alongside a circular foot. Measuring 6.5 cm high by 14 cm wide and 14 cm deep, the bowl stands on a small circular foot rim. In a modern interior, this item suits placement on a sideboard top to hold small decorative items or stand as a standalone display piece in a living room, dining room, or hallway. The construction involves a white glazed body with scalloped rim edges and finely delineated polychrome enamel illustrations of plants, figures, and geometric patterns.

In the 18th century, plain undecorated or partially decorated Chinese export porcelain was imported into England and enamelled by independent London workshops, most prominently the studio of James Giles.

The base body consists of hard-paste Chinese porcelain, fired at high temperatures before overglaze enamel pigments and gilding were applied by hand and re-fired in lower-temperature muffle kilns.

Authentic pieces are identified by signature palette colours such as distinctive iron-red, wet-looking gilding, characteristic figure painting, and stylistic foliage patterns typical of the Soho workshop.

These pieces function as focal points when displayed on mahogany sideboards, within glazed bookcases, or as central accent pieces on mantelpieces alongside contemporary art.

Clean gently using lukewarm water and a mild detergent with a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive chemicals, immersion, or extreme temperature changes that can damage overglaze enamels and gilding.
