Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian giltwood and gesso plant stand or torchere works in an empty corner as a display pedestal for lamps or floral arrangements. The structure has a circular grey marble top set within a raised moulded rim, above a pierced and carved frieze showing floral or scroll motifs. Four slender cabriole legs curve downwards to pointed or scroll feet, connected near the base by a cross-shaped X-frame stretcher centred with a small turned finial. The surface displays a worn gold finish with visible red bole ground showing through in places, indicating age and past handling. Practical proportions measure 92 cm high, 39 cm wide, and 40 cm deep.

A torchere is a tall, slender stand originally designed to hold candelabra or oil lamps, which evolved during the Edwardian period into a decorative pedestal for displaying plants, busts, or vases.

These pieces feature a carved wooden frame finished with gold leaf or gilding, often paired with an inset marble top to provide a durable surface for displaying decorative items.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved detailing, subtle wear or natural distressing to the gilding showing red bole or gesso undercoats, and traditional joinery beneath the marble insert.

A giltwood torchere serves as a focal accent in a modern room, suited for elevating a houseplant, ceramic vessel, or sculpted artwork within an empty corner or hallway.

Dust delicate carved giltwood gently with a soft dry brush or microfibre cloth, avoiding liquid cleaners that could dissolve water gilding, while marble tops should be wiped with a pH-neutral damp cloth.
