Description

A large and impressive Art Deco burr walnut nest of tables by Hille. They were made in England, they date from the 1920’s.

The quality is outstanding, they are incredibly well made and are a substantial size. The table tops have stunning burr walnut grain patterns, they stand on wonderfully scrolled legs and look great from all angles. These tables would work well in traditional or modern settings.

We have had them stripped and re-polished, the condition is superb throughout.

We also have the matching dining table, eight chairs, sideboard and server table that came with this. Additionally we have a Hille bedroom suite in the same style that also came with this and was all purchased together in the 1920’s.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco furniture emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric forms, streamlined silhouettes, and the use of luxurious materials such as exotic veneers, chrome, and high-gloss finishes.

Burr walnut furniture typically features a softwood or hardwood carcase overlaid with highly figured walnut veneer sourced from the trees root or growth excrescences, creating complex grain patterns. Traditional construction often involves precision dovetailing, mortise and tenon joints, and hand-polished shellac or lacquer finishes.

Authentic period pieces can be identified by construction methods consistent with the 1920s and 1930s, such as solid secondary timbers, maker stamps or paper labels, hand-cut joinery, and natural ageing characteristics within the veneer and finish.

Nesting tables offer high versatility in contemporary spaces, functioning as layered side tables beside a sofa, separated surfaces around a room, or compact display stands for decorative objects.

Antique wood furniture should be kept out of direct sunlight and away from direct heat sources to prevent veneer lifting and timber splitting. Dusting should be performed with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding silicone-based polishes in favour of traditional microcrystalline waxes.
