FAQs

French farmhouse tables originated in rural France, traditionally serving as the central gathering place for large peasant or landowning families for daily meals and domestic work.

These tables are typically constructed from local hardwoods such as walnut, oak, or chestnut, featuring sturdy mortise-and-tenon joinery and thick plank tops designed to withstand heavy daily use.

Authenticity is identified by period-appropriate joinery, hand-planed surface irregularities, natural patina accumulated through decades of use, and traditional tool marks rather than modern machine cuts.

Pair the rustic warmth of the aged timber with contrasting contemporary elements, such as minimalist dining chairs and sleek industrial lighting, to create a balanced scheme.

Protect the surface by avoiding direct heat and moisture, using coasters or mats, and periodically feeding the wood with natural beeswax to maintain its condition without stripping the historic finish.
