Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A French refectory dining table is a long, narrow table style derived from medieval monastery dining halls. Regional French versions were typically crafted from local hardwoods or fruitwoods like cherry or oak and functioned as the central table in rural farmhouse kitchens.

Traditional French farmhouse tables were constructed using solid regional timbers, particularly cherry, oak, walnut, and chestnut. Construction involved pegged mortise and tenon joints, hand-planed plank tops, and often included side or end frieze drawers for cutlery storage.

Authentic period examples exhibit signs of historical use, including natural patination, subtle shrinkage marks along plank seams, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, and wooden peg construction visible along the apron and leg joints.

A French refectory table can be styled by pairing its warm timber tones with contemporary metal or upholstered dining chairs to create a balanced contrast. It functions as a central anchor in open-plan kitchen-dining spaces or modern rustic environments.

Solid cherry wood tables require regular dusting with a soft cloth and periodic application of beeswax to nourish the timber and protect the finish. Liquid spills should be wiped immediately, and the wood should be kept away from direct heat sources to prevent drying or warping.
