These tables are characterised by their functional folding drop leaves supported by swing-out legs, originating primarily in the late 17th and early 18th centuries for flexible living spaces.

They were predominantly crafted from native English timbers such as solid oak or elm, featuring pegged mortise and tenon joints, turned underframe stretchers, and hand-planed top boards.

Authenticity is assessed by examining hand-cut joints, traditional timber shrinkage, historical patina, tool marks on the underside, and wear patterns consistent with centuries of use.

Pairing the warm timber with contemporary seating creates a balanced contrast, while using the table with its leaves dropped down functions effectively as a console in smaller rooms.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight, applying natural beeswax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes to protect the historic surface.
