Description

A very interesting antique embossed leather top nest of tables, made in England & dating from around the 1910 period.

The leather tops depict Aztec or possibly Inca gods, they have exceptional details and are extremely well made. The frames are mahogany, with beautifully turned legs and serpentine shaped lower frieze edges.

The condition is excellent for their age, we have given them a clean and fresh wax polish.

I would date them to around the 1910-20’s period.

Nesting tables, or interchangeable tables, gained popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian periods as versatile space-saving solutions for entertaining and serving tea.

These tables are traditionally constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, frequently featuring mortise and tenon joints, turned legs, and specialized surface inlays like tooled leather.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate joinery, hand-carved details, natural wear patterns on the wood and leather, and the absence of modern mechanical fasteners.

They can be arranged together as a sculptural tiered accent or separated and placed beside armchairs and sofas to provide functional surface space while adding historical texture to contemporary rooms.

Preserve the items by keeping them out of direct sunlight, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally conditioning the leather and wood with specialized conservation wax.
