This Victorian occasional table dates from the nineteenth century and is formed from dark brown rosewood with a polished timber finish. The circular top is surrounded by a bobbin-turned spindled gallery rim, resting upon a fluted column stem above a lobed weighted base supported by three splayed scroll feet. The tabletop measures 43 cm in width, while the total height stands at 66 cm. Suitable for everyday placement at the end of a sofa in a traditional interior, this piece functions well as a wine table or small display surface. The design fits comfortably within an English Country House setting, combining compact proportions with decorative turned and carved detailing throughout the structure.

Gallery top wine tables originated in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, designed with raised spindled or fretted borders to prevent glassware and decanters from sliding off the surface.

These tables were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, and walnut, often featuring hand-turned spindles, carved pedestal stems, and tripod bases.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved joinery, natural shrinkage or subtle asymmetry in the circular top, historical wear on the feet, and original hand-turned spindle construction.

Position the table beside an armchair or in a reading corner as a functional accent piece to introduce warm timber tones and refined craftsmanship to contemporary spaces.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically, avoiding direct heat sources and chemical spray cleaners to protect the original finish.
