This Georgian Regency occasional table, dating to circa 1820, consists of a solid mahogany dishtop supported by a rosewood base. The circular top features a raised rim, resting on a central turned pedestal stem with gadrooned carving and a triform base terminating in scrolled feet. The timber exhibits a dark brown colour with polished grain patterns. Measuring 51 cm in diameter and 53 cm in height, the piece has been reduced in height at some point in its history. In a contemporary home, this compact piece functions well at the end of a sofa or beside a chair as an occasional surface for resting drinks or small decorative items. Its sturdy triform footprint provides stability on solid floors, while the modest proportions allow it to fit comfortably into smaller living spaces or reading corners without dominating the room.

Originating in the early 19th century during the Regency era, dish-top tables feature a raised rim around the circular surface, designed to prevent small items such as candles or tea vessels from sliding off.

Cabinetmakers of this period predominantly utilised timbers such as Cuban mahogany and rosewood, constructed with hand-turned pedestal stems and solid timber joinery.

Authentic Regency pieces exhibit hand-carved detail on the pedestal stem, original wooden or metal fixings beneath the top, and natural patination along the moulded dished edge.

Position the table alongside an armchair or sofa end to provide a functional surface, allowing its timber tones to create balance against contemporary upholstered furniture.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice yearly along the wood grain to preserve the timber finish.
