Regency Mahogany Tilt Top Wine Table

Description

A lovely small mahogany tilt-top wine table dating from the early 19th Century. It has a one-piece top set on a ring turned support with elegant tripod splayed legs.

It is in good condition for its age and has a lovely rich colour and patina. There are signs of age and use, some minor old marks on the top and small knocks here and there but no major damages. The catch is strong and the top is level. There is an old shrinkage split in the main support and there has been an old repair to one leg but the table is strong and sturdy. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.

A Regency tilt-top wine table is a small occasional table manufactured primarily in early nineteenth-century Britain. Designed with a hinged tabletop that tilts vertically via a catch mechanism, these tables were crafted to be moved easily and stored against a wall when not in use during social gatherings.

These tables were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or flame mahogany veneers due to the woods stability and rich grain.
