Originating from the 1930s Art Deco period, this porcelain powder box is a glazed ceramic vessel with a cylindrical terracotta base. The lid is surmounted by a painted figurine of a flapper seated in a green dress, complete with stylised brown hair and delicate facial features. The smooth glaze finish shines across the terracotta body and the green garments of the figurine. Measuring 16 cm high, 11 cm wide and 9 cm deep, the box provides a compact container for dressing tables or bedside spaces. In a modern home, it suits a bedroom or dressing room placement, serving as a decorative container for small personal items or vanity powder. The vibrant contrast between the rich terracotta and the soft green glaze brings character to interior surfaces, aligning with classic 1930s decorative arts. The ceramic construction maintains a clean appearance on display, while the removable lid offers practical access to the interior compartment without mechanical hardware.

Art Deco powder boxes from this period typically feature stylised human figures, geometric forms, or fashion illustrations reflecting the modern aesthetic and jazz age culture of the era.

Most were produced using moulded porcelain, earthenware, or pressed glass, finished with hand-painted glazes or cold-painted decorative enamels.

Authentic pieces often show age-appropriate wear to the base rim, faint maker marks or mould numbers stamped into the unglazed underside, and characteristic era-specific colour palettes.

These decorative vessels function well as functional trinket containers on dressing tables, bedside tables, or bathroom shelving to store small items like jewellery.

Dust gently with a soft dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners or submersion in water, particularly if cold-painted enamels are present.
