The Louis XVI style emerged in France during the late 18th century, characterised by a return to classical neoclassical proportions, straight lines, symmetry, and architectural motifs such as fluting and acanthus leaves.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak or beech, frequently featuring hand-carved ornamentation, gesso finishes, and inset slabs of natural marble on the upper surface.

Authenticity is indicated by traditional joinery methods, hand-carved rather than moulded details, natural ageing of the timber and gesso, and the weight and veining of the original marble top.

Pairing an ornate period console with minimalist walls and modern lighting creates a balanced contrast, allowing the traditional craftsmanship and sculptural silhouette to function as a focal point.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners that can damage the painted finish or etch the porous marble top.
