Demi-lune tables, named after the French word for half-moon, gained popularity during the Neoclassical period of the late eighteenth century. Designed with a flat back and curved front, they were created to fit flush against walls in grand entryways and reception rooms.

Tables from this period are traditionally constructed from hardwoods such as beech, oak, or pine, which are then painted or painted over gesso. Construction features mortise and tenon joinery, carved fluted legs, and recessed aprons.

Authentic pieces display natural wear to the painted surface, particularly along the edges and lower legs, revealing underlying wood or earlier paint layers. Look for hand-carved details, uneven fluting, and traditional hand-cut joinery on the underside.
