Description

A beautiful and unusual antique wine cooler table with a lift up lid, in solid birch. This was likely made in the 1920’s, it has a typical Moorish influence in the design. It is dated on the bottom, 4/7/28.

It has a gorgeous shape and is a useful size, with hexagonal sides and etched grape vines all over. The top flips up to reveal a removable tin wine cooler storage space. I suppose it could also be used for any storage.

This is in excellent condition for its age, we have just had it re-polished.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

An antique wine cooler, often referred to as a cellaret or ice pail, is a specialised vessel historically used to chill wine and champagne bottles during formal dining before the invention of modern refrigeration.

Traditional wine coolers were predominantly constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or satinwood, frequently featuring lead linings or zinc inserts to hold ice and water securely.

Authentic pieces typically display period-appropriate joinery, original metal or wooden liners with signs of age-appropriate oxidisation, and hand-carved or inlaid decorative motifs consistent with specific historical design movements.

An antique wine cooler can be repurposed as a distinctive floor-standing planter, an umbrella stand, or utilized traditionally next to a dining sideboard to add historical texture to a modern room.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels to prevent wood cracking, avoiding direct sunlight, and applying appropriate furniture wax periodically while keeping interior metal liners dry when not in active use.
