We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

  • MotifsCoopered oak staves, Silver-plated hoops, Loop handles, Metal liner insert

Coopered oak champagne coolers originated in nineteenth-century Britain, utilising traditional barrel-making techniques where wooden staves were bound with metal hoops to create watertight vessel designs for dining rooms.

These pieces typically feature solid oak staves, electroplated nickel silver or sterling silver bands, twin handles, and removable zinc or lead liners to protect the wood from ice and condensation.

Look for clear silver makers marks or EPNS stamps on the metal bands, authentic construction joinery on the oak staves, and signs of age-related oxidisation on the metal surfaces and liner.

Place the vessel on a sideboard, drinks trolley, or kitchen island as a bar accessory, or use it as a table centrepiece filled with foliage or rolled linen napkins.

Clean the wood with a soft dry cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically, while using dedicated silver polish on the metal mounts, taking care to dry the metal liner thoroughly after use to prevent corrosion.
