Staffordshire pottery figures were widely produced in the English potteries of Staffordshire during the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly coming into prominence during the Victorian era as popular mantelpiece ornaments for middle-class homes.

These figures were typically made from earthenware or pearlware, hand-painted with underglaze or overglaze colours, and often finished with a clear lead glaze to give them their characteristic glossy appearance.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit characteristic crazing in the glaze, vent holes on the underside or back for firing, hand-painted detailing with minor irregularities, and lightweight earthenware bodies rather than heavy modern ceramics.

They can be displayed in pairs on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or sideboards to add a touch of historical character, classic symmetry, and traditional English charm to modern living spaces.

To preserve antique ceramics, keep them out of direct sunlight to prevent paint fading, dust them gently with a dry microfiber cloth, and avoid using liquid cleaners or water which can seep into microscopic cracks in the glaze.
