Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Folding game boards and travelling sets became particularly popular during the 19th century as rail travel expanded, allowing passengers to pass time on long journeys with compact, multi-game sets.

These pieces were typically constructed from hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, featuring intricate wood marquetry, veneering, and small brass hinges to allow the box to fold securely.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut dovetail joints, period-appropriate brass hardware, natural patination on the wood, and hand-inlaid veneer work rather than modern printed graphics.

Place the closed box on a coffee table, stack of books, or a bookshelf as a tactile decorative object that adds historical texture and a layer of intellectual charm to the room.

Keep wooden game boards away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations to prevent the veneer from lifting. Apply a microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish and protect the timber surface.
