Victorian acid-etched glass became popular in British pubs during the late 19th century as a method to provide privacy for patrons while allowing natural light to filter through from the street.

Craftsmen used hydrofluoric acid to etch designs into sheet glass, masking specific areas with a resistant substance to create contrasting clear and frosted frosted motifs.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit minor surface imperfections, subtle waviness in the glass pane, hand-etched detailing with distinct depth, and historical signs of wear consistent with age.

These panels can be mounted on interior walls as decorative art, integrated into bespoke cabinetry, or installed as room dividers to maintain light flow whilst adding historical character.

Clean gently using a soft microfiber cloth and a mild, non-ammonia glass cleaner. Avoid abrasive pads or harsh chemicals that could compromise the fragile frosted surface.
