Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1900s:
Sand-shaded shell inlay: typical technique of the Edwardian Sheraton revival.
Barber-pole banding around the top: popular cabinetmaking detail around 1900.
Square tapered legs with fine boxwood stringing: standard late Victorian and Edwardian design.
Gentle surface softening on table edges: decades of normal domestic handling.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian lamp table from 1900 is fashioned from mahogany with satinwood and boxwood accents, displaying a warm brown timber colour throughout. The rectangular top features a contrasting oval central inlay, barber pole crossbanding along the border, and stringing to the frieze, all supported by four square tapered legs that join a lower tier shelf below. The construction stands 71.5 cm high, 61.5 cm wide, and 41 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this English Country house style side table suits placement at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair to hold a reading lamp, decorative objects, or a cup of tea. The lower shelf offers additional surface space for books or magazines while maintaining an open silhouette on a tiled or wooden floor.

FAQs

Edwardian inlaid furniture, produced between 1901 and 1910, often draws inspiration from 18th-century Neoclassical styles such as Sheraton and Hepplewhite, featuring lighter forms, mahogany timbers, and geometric marquetry or satinwood banding.

Craftsmen typically utilised solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, employing dovetail joints, square tapered legs, and decorative timber inlays such as satinwood, boxwood, and ebony to construct geometric motifs.

Authentic pieces generally display precise inlay work, natural grain variation beneath a polished surface, original construction joints, and evidence of subtle hand-planing or age-appropriate wear on the undersides.

An Edwardian side table serves as a functional accent piece beside upholstered seating, providing a surface for task lighting, reading materials, or decorative objects while introducing warmth to modern room layouts.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber drying.
