Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Spanish Revival style writing desk originates from 1900 and is constructed from solid French walnut in a warm brown colour. The piece stands on splayed trestle legs connected by a curved wrought iron stretcher beneath a rectangular top, and incorporates two carved drawers on one side fitted with teardrop iron pulls. Visible details include carved drawer fronts, shaped legs, and exposed timber grain. The desk measures 140 cm wide, 82 cm high, and 70 cm deep. Suitable for placement in a study or a gentleman's library, this desk provides a practical workspace for writing or reading. The combination of timber and wrought iron suits traditional interior schemes, offering a functional surface with integrated drawer storage for stationery and small items.

FAQs

Spanish style desks are typically constructed from dense hardwoods like walnut and feature distinctive curved wrought iron stretchers known as fiadores. The design often incorporates splayed trestle legs and decorative carved drawer panels.

Historically, Spanish tables were crafted using solid walnut or oak, fastened with hand-forged iron hardware and stretchers. Traditional mortise and tenon joinery provided structural integrity without relying on complex internal bracing.

Authentic pieces generally display visible hand-tooling marks, iron forged by hand showing minor variations, and warm patinated walnut. Look for structural features such as iron support braces connecting the legs directly to the underside of the table top.

Pair the rich wood tones and dark ironwork with neutral plaster walls, modern leather seating, or minimalist ceramic accessories. The strong architectural lines make it a suitable focal point in both contemporary studies and classic rooms.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax periodically to maintain the surface finish. Wipe down wrought iron elements with a dry cloth to prevent moisture accumulation and oxidisation.
