Botanical porcelain painting gained immense popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, influenced by the rise of amateur naturalism and formal botanical illustration. Artists painted native and exotic floral subjects directly onto glazed porcelain blanks, which were then fired to fix the enamels for ornamental display.

These pieces were typically crafted from fine white porcelain or earthenware blanks. Artists applied mineral-based enamel pigments mixed with oils over the existing glaze, followed by kiln firing to permanently fuse the artwork to the ceramic surface.
