This Queen Anne style coffee table dates from 1920. Constructed from walnut and walnut veneer, the piece displays a warm brown finish with a highly figured grain pattern across the top surface. The serpentine-shaped top rests on four cabriole legs that finish in carved ball and claw feet. A noticeable vertical grain variation runs down the central join of the veneered surface, while the legs exhibit curved profiles and detailed talon carvings. The table measures 102 cm long, 51 cm deep, and 48 cm tall. Suitable for use in a traditional living room, the coffee table serves as a central surface for drinks, books, or decorative accessories. The low profile and compact footprint allow the piece to sit comfortably in front of a sofa or armchair within an English country house interior. The solid construction provides stability for daily domestic use.

FAQs

Queen Anne style tables originated in 18th-century English design traditions, characterised by graceful cabriole legs, pad or ball and claw feet, and curvilinear tops that highlight natural wood grain.

Traditional pieces were constructed using solid walnut timber along with figured walnut or burr veneers, often featuring hand-carved detailing on the legs and quarter-matched top panels.

Look for natural wear on the surface polish, authentic patination beneath the top, crisp hand-carved details on the knee and foot scrollwork, and secondary wood construction on internal framing.

Position the table alongside neutral linen upholstery and modern soft furnishings to allow the rich timber grain and carved leg silhouettes to act as an anchor point in the room.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid placement near radiators or direct sunlight, and apply a natural beeswax polish occasionally to preserve the veneer finish.
