Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramic wares produced in the Arita region, historically shipped via the port of Imari. Known for Cobalt blue underglaze decoration and complex painted patterns, these pieces became prominent export items from the seventeenth century onwards.

Traditional Imari ceramics are made from fine kaolin clay fired at elevated temperatures to form a durable porcelain body. Patterns are painted by hand using cobalt oxide before applying a translucent glaze for the final firing.
