This large 19th-century English serving table dates from 1880 in the English Country style. Made from scrubbed and bleached oak, the piece displays a pale brown colour with visible grain texture and a plain, unadorned timber finish. The construction incorporates a long rectangular top over five drawers fitted with small round turned wooden knobs. The framework rests on square straight legs joined by a low stretcher base that runs along the lower length of the structure, adding support near the floor. Measuring 81 cm high, 272 cm wide, and 64 cm deep, the table suits placement in a spacious dining room, kitchen, or hallway as a practical surface for serving food, displaying decorative items, or providing storage. The rustic farmhouse aesthetic integrates easily into both traditional and contemporary interior schemes where a long, narrow wooden console or serving station is required.

Traditionally positioned in dining rooms or main hall spaces, serving tables were designed to assist in food service, hold serving platters, or display tableware during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Period serving tables typically feature solid oak timber joinery, mortise and tenon joints, hand-fitted drawer runners, and turned wooden drawer handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit evidence of natural timber shrinkage, hand-cut dovetails within drawer construction, subtle wear across lower stretchers, and residual finish within deeper grain grooves.

A long serving table functions as a statement console in an expansive hallway, behind a central sofa to anchor an open-plan room, or in a dining area for serving and display.

Keep bleached timber away from direct heat sources and moisture, dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth, and apply a neutral matte wax sparingly to maintain the wood without altering the pale tone.
