A Selection Of Lamb's Works Contained In 6 Uniformly Bound Books Dated 1884-1888

Charles Lamb (1774-1834) was an English poet and essayist who also collaborated with his sister Mary (1764-1847) on various works. This selection of Works comprises; 2 volumes of Letters; Essays of Elia; Poems, Plays and Essays; Tales from Shakespeare; and Mrs Leicester''s School which also includes other writings in Prose and Verse. Each volume has an introduction by the 19th century English biographer and critic Alfred Ainger (1837-1904).
 
All volumes were published between 1884-1888 by MacMillian and Co and are uniformly bound by Stikeman & Co in crushed half morocco with marbled paper boards and end papers with top edges gilt. The spines are gilt decorated and arranged as 6 compartments by 5 raised bands. Height of each volume 18.7cms, depth some 12.2cms and the overall shelf coverage is approximately 17.6cms.
 
Condition: tightly bound and clean save for occasional marks and short notes in pencil and age toning to the page edges. Externally shelf-wear, marks and scuffing, in particular to hinges. The majority of the head only of the spine to Poems, Plays and Essays is missing. Some loss to gilding.
