Antique Late Victorian / Early Edwardian Walnut Occasional Hall Sofa Lamp Table

1900 - 1920
Description

A Lovely Late Victorian Walnut Table.

A charming table.

We bring to you this outstanding late Victorian to early Edwardian solid walnut table believed to be made between C1890 - 1900. This great table is in a lovely original condition which we have just enhanced by sympathetically waxing this table preserving the lovely lightly faded original colour with lots of patina and charm.

The lovely solid single piece Walnut table top is rare in having no joints and has no bowing or twisting. This table stands on 4 typical Edwardian turned pillars which descend to a gallery either side which finishes to a turned centre stretcher between 2 ornately shaped legs. The one leg does have an old break which has been repaired and has a slightly visible line but is strong and solid with no movement.

The table is movable on 4 original brown porcelain castors. There is no movement or play in any of the joints.

Please note this item is in beautiful condition for its age as shown in the photographs below however being an antique item it does have the odd bump and repair here and there. However, we feel that these points are which adds charm and character to a piece.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, occasional tables were crafted for versatile placement within drawing rooms, featuring refined wood turning, compact proportions, and classic forms that bridged Victorian detail with Edwardian simplicity.

These tables typically utilised solid or veneered walnut, assembled using traditional mortise and tenon joinery alongside hand-turned spindles, central stretchers, and brass or ceramic castors for mobility.

Authentic period pieces exhibit historic joinery techniques, natural age patina on the timber surfaces, genuine turned spindle details, and original or era-appropriate castors attached to the feet.

Position the piece behind a sofa, along an entrance hallway, or beside an armchair, balancing the warm walnut tones with contemporary table lamps, books, or ceramic accessories.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish once or twice per year, keeping the item away from direct heat sources and excess moisture.
