Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English late Victorian solid mahogany folding architect’s folio / plan / chart table stand, circa 1890, in excellent original condition. The stand comprises two folding pierced panelled frames, each with three moulded central chamfered spars. The tabletop frame folds out in opposite directions on their original hinges to form a single flat work surface, upon which a drawing board / plans / charts can be displayed. The tabletop is supported on either side by reeded supports, which also feature a fielded panel and topped by a curved pediment. The supports are raised on splayed, reeded legs, which are connected by ring turned stretchers to the front, sides and rear. The table retains the original badge, stating “The Patent Office - Designs Branch No. 149072”.
Condition Report:
This folding table stand is in excellent original working condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the mahogany frame, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. The table stand has been French polished, to a professional standard, in our workshops. The table stand boasts a fantastic rich brown mahogany colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. There are no breaks or missing parts. This table stand is well-constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
