Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian music stand dates from the period around 1900 and exemplifies a Gothic Revival style, combining an elongated form with sturdy industrial elements. The piece comprises a warm brown wooden top with a sloping ledge, supported by two black twisted wrought iron legs that feature T-bar feet and decorative metal brackets beneath the surface. Visible details include the contrasting dark wrought ironwork against the timber grain, the twisted upright supports, and the simple utilitarian construction suited to musical or reading purposes. Measuring 86 cm high, 190 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, this long furniture item fits comfortably along a hallway wall or serves as a striking focal point in an empty corner of a study or living area. The combination of iron and wood provides a practical surface for resting open books, scores, or decorative displays while maintaining a narrow footprint in the room.

FAQs

Freestanding wide music stands and lecterns gained popularity during the 19th century in church choirs and orchestral halls, providing sufficient surface area for multiple pages of sheet music or large hymnals.

These stands were predominantly constructed using dense hardwoods such as oak or mahogany for the resting ledge, paired with hand-forged wrought iron or cast iron for the load-bearing supports.

Authentic pieces feature signs of genuine age including natural oxidisation on the metalwork, irregular hand-forged joins, uneven wear on the timber ledge, and period-correct fixings like slot-head screws or rivets.

In contemporary spaces, a wide antique stand functions effectively as a gallery-style display holder for large art books, open botanical prints, or as an architectural accent piece in an entryway or library.

Timber surfaces should be preserved with a high-grade beeswax polish applied sparingly, while the iron framework requires occasional dusting and a light coat of microcrystalline wax to prevent rust formation.
