Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Staffordshire pottery figures originated in the 19th century as accessible decorative ornaments for Victorian homes. Produced by numerous potteries in Staffordshire, England, they frequently depicted royalty, folk heroes, theatrical characters, and literary subjects.

These figures were cast in earthenware press moulds, fired to a bisque state, dipped in a lead glaze, and then decorated using overglaze enamel colours. Many flatback figures featured plain or sparsely decorated reverse sides to sit flush against a wall or shelf.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit lightweight earthenware construction, small kiln vent holes, soft moulding detail from repeated mould use, and age-appropriate crazing in the glaze. They rarely feature factory marks, as small potteries did not mark their utility wares.

Position them on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or sideboard as individual accent pieces or grouped with contrasting ceramic textures. Pairing 19th-century figures with clean, contemporary backdrops highlights their historical folk-art aesthetic.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft bristle brush. Avoid submerging in water or using harsh chemical cleaners, as water can enter stress cracks and damage original overglaze enamel painting.
