Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Meiji period (18681912) Japanese porcelain figures often depict traditional subjects such as geishas or court ladies (bijin-ga) decorated with intricate overglaze enamels and gilding. These pieces were created both for domestic appreciation and export to Western markets during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

These sculptures were typically slip-cast or hand-moulded using fine porcelain clay. After an initial firing, artists meticulously hand-painted elaborate floral or geometric garment patterns using enamel pigments and gold accents before executing a final glost firing.

Authentic period examples exhibit delicate facial features, finely painted textile patterns rather than modern transfer decals, soft wear to gilding on raised edges, and occasionally maker marks painted or incised under the base.

Position the statuette on a mantelpiece, sideboard top, or inside a glass display cabinet to showcase its detailed painted surfaces. Placing it against a dark or neutral background helps highlight the rich cobalt blues and polychrome enamels.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a clean artist paint brush. Avoid immersing the figure in water or using abrasive liquid cleaners, as moisture can breach hairline crazing and harsh chemicals can damage delicate enamel decorations.
