This late 19th century coffee table belongs to the Rococo Revival style and originates from 1890. Constructed from walnut and giltwood, the piece has a warm brown polished timber finish paired with gold-coloured decorative accents. The rectangular dished top sits over a frieze detailed with a gilded gadroon edge, while the cabriole legs display carved acanthus leaf knees and terminate in ball and claw feet. A lower tier with a gilded edge provides additional display space between the four legs. The table stands 62 cm high, 75 cm wide, and 44 cm deep. Practical for use in a sitting room, this two tier surface functions well positioned at the end of a sofa or alongside seating. The solid construction and robust build provide stability for everyday placement. The combination of polished wood and gilded highlights brings a traditional French Chateau design feel to an interior layout.

These tables typically feature sweeping cabriole legs, intricate carved foliage, and ornate gilded accents inspired by 18th-century French court furniture.

Craftsmen utilised rich walnut timber with solid joinery, frequently incorporating carved giltwood accents and polished lower undershelves for added support.

Look for hand-carved detail on the knee mounts, natural grain variations across the timber, period-appropriate joinery beneath the apron, and genuine aged gilding.

Position the piece as an occasional table or central accent, utilising the lower shelf for art books while keeping the top surface uncluttered.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish sparingly, taking care to keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
